Finally, Defexpo18 (10th edition of the Defence Expo, India) concluded in Chennai on the 14th April, 2018. With 'India: The Emerging Defence Manufacturing Hub' as its theme, this event brought together delegations from 47 countries, and featured 162 foreign companies and 539 Indian companies. A majority, 75% of the exhibitors, were Indian companies, using this perfect platform to showcase the power of 'Make In India'.

For the first time ever in the history of Defence Expo India, indigenously developed land, air and naval systems were displayed to the delegations and the public (on the last day). While the might of the fighter jets shaking the grounds, the megalithic ships moored right across the East Coast Road (ECR) in the Bay of Bengal, the nimble helicopters and the fierce artillery tanks – all were a part of the grand show put up for spectators outdoors, the exhibition, spread across various air-conditioned hangars, showcased a wide array products and services meant for the armed forces.

The event was inaugurated by the Prime Minster, Shri Narendra Modi and Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, who visited and encouraged all the exhibitors and associates from across the world.

As stated recently by COAS, Bipin Rawat, ISR is a major requirement of the Indian army, with indigenous solutions being preferred. No wonder, there were many innovative solutions and services devised for ISR and tactical communication, to be seen at the show, too.

Vihaan Networks Limited (VNL) was one such proud Indian company that showcased its range of Tactical LTE, Smart ISR and Camp, and Perimeter Protection solutions. With products ranging from border security (smart) surveillance, command and control centres, Dog ISRs, radars, sensors and other classified products – the VNL stall got many eyeballs with its array of tactical communication and surveillance solutions. With a vision of empowering the Indian Armed Forces, VNL is working towards creating equipment which runs on renewable energy, has days of battery back-ups, and is easy-to-carry for on-the-move operations and missions. The carefully crafted solutions come from a practical approach towards in-field and off-field missions – what and how will our solider need and how quickly, to protect and serve the nation? This has made our teams come up with highly sensible, smart devices which aid situational awareness, information gathering and sharing, secure networked communication, tactical communication, 360-degree secure surveillance, and other intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) and communication requirements.

The event also provided a fruitful opportunity for VNL to introduce to visitors, its range of cost-effective, indigenously designed, developed and manufactured (IDDM), end-to-end communication and ISR solutions for the armed forces.

The response from the Army, Air-force and Naval delegations, potential partners, and general visitors was definitely encouraging, leading to a number of specific enquiries that should fructify in the days to come.
